About Bitpanda

Bitpanda is Austria's first unicorn and one of Europe's leading digital investment platforms, offering cryptocurrency trading alongside stocks, ETFs, precious metals, and commodities. Founded on September 12, 2014, in Vienna by Eric Demuth, Paul Klanschek, and Christian Trummer, the company originally operated as Coinimal GmbH before rebranding to Bitpanda.

The platform has raised approximately $589 million across multiple funding rounds, with key investors including Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, DST Global partners, Alan Howard, LeadBlock Partners, Jump Capital, and Speedinvest. In August 2021, Bitpanda achieved a valuation of $4.1 billion following a $263 million Series C round led by Valar Ventures.

Bitpanda serves over 7 million users across Europe and offers access to more than 3,200 digital assets, including 650+ cryptocurrencies. In 2024, the company reported record operating revenue of €393 million (more than double the previous year) with an EBITDA margin exceeding 30%. The company has been consistently profitable since 2018, with the exception of 2022 during the broader market downturn.

Headquarters are located in Vienna, Austria, with additional offices in Barcelona, Berlin, Bucharest, Dubai, London, Malta, Milan, and Zurich. The company employs approximately 730 staff, with half working as programmers.

Bitpanda holds an extensive regulatory portfolio, including three MiCA licenses (from Germany's BaFin, Austria's FMA, and Malta's MFSA), making it the most regulated crypto platform under the EU's new MiCA framework. Additional authorizations include UK FCA registration (February 2025), Dubai VARA license (March 2025), PSD2 E-Money license, and MiFID II securities license. The company is authorized to operate across all 27 EU member states.

Strategic partnerships include collaborations with major financial institutions like Deutsche Bank, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), Raiffeisen, and N26. Sports sponsorships include FC Bayern Munich (crypto partner since 2024), AC Milan, NFL, and previously the Davis Cup and Italian Rugby Federation.

Bitpanda Card Overview

The Bitpanda Card is a Visa debit card that lets users spend assets held in their custodial Bitpanda account anywhere Visa is accepted. According to Bitpanda's current card page, the card is designed to spend crypto assets as well as other supported Bitpanda investments (e.g., metals and stocks) via a single card, with conversion happening at the time of payment.

The card uses an in-app setup where you choose a main payment asset and can also configure a fallback payment asset. When you pay, Bitpanda converts the selected asset for settlement (Bitpanda describes the experience as spending your assets "like cash" with a single tap). Card controls—including selecting the main/fallback asset, viewing spending history, and managing the card—are handled directly inside the Bitpanda app.

Bitpanda also supports mobile payments: the Bitpanda Card works with Apple Pay and Google Pay, enabling contactless payments without using the physical card.

Note: Cashback eligibility depends on the chosen payment asset (see Cashback Program below).
