What is BlueSnap?

BlueSnap, now powered by Payroc, is a Global Payment Orchestration Platform designed to help businesses accept payments seamlessly worldwide while reducing costs and increasing revenue. Originally founded in 2001 as Plimus in Israel, the company rebranded to BlueSnap and has since expanded to serve businesses requiring sophisticated global payment solutions. With headquarters in Waltham, MA, and Dublin, Ireland, BlueSnap provides an all-in-one solution that combines payment gateway, merchant account, and advanced optimization features. The platform serves e-commerce retailers, subscription services, marketplaces, SaaS companies, and enterprises across multiple industries including software, education, healthcare, and financial services.

Global Payment Capabilities

BlueSnap processes payments from over 200 regions, supporting 100+ shopper currencies and 100+ payment types. The platform offers local card acquiring in 50 countries, which allows businesses to process transactions through local banks rather than as cross-border transactions. This local acquiring capability increases authorization rates and helps merchants avoid unnecessary cross-border fees and foreign exchange costs. Settlement is available in 18 like-for-like currencies, providing flexibility for businesses operating in multiple markets.

Payment Methods Supported

The platform accepts all major credit and debit cards globally, plus digital wallets, direct debits (ACH transfers in the US, SEPA in Europe, and local options for Canada, Australia, and Netherlands), and Buy Now Pay Later services. BlueSnap's BuyNow Hosted Checkout templates dynamically display in 29 languages based on shopper location, creating a localized checkout experience that reduces cart abandonment.

Intelligent Payment Routing

BlueSnap's Intelligent Payment Routing technology directs transactions to the bank most likely to approve them across the global network. This optimization ensures the highest likelihood of payment success, increasing authorization rates compared to single-acquirer setups. The routing can be configured by country, product, issuer, and other parameters to maximize approval rates for different transaction types.

Pricing Structure

BlueSnap offers multiple pricing models. The Quick Start plan charges 4.90% + $0.30 per successful card transaction with no monthly fees during the first 12 months or if processing over $2,500 monthly. Standard pricing is approximately 2.9% + $0.30 per successful transaction, though actual rates vary based on business size and transaction volume. Custom pricing is available for larger businesses, including interchange-plus, tiered, or flat-rate options, as well as Level 2 and Level 3 data processing rates for B2B transactions. There are no setup fees, monthly fees, or annual fees on standard plans. Chargeback fees are approximately £15/$15 per occurrence.

Embedded Payments

For software platforms wanting to monetize payments, BlueSnap offers embedded payment solutions. These white-labeled solutions include automated underwriting, onboarding, compliance, reporting, and payment processing. Two main options are available: BlueSnap Gateway, a hosted turnkey solution for fastest time to market, and a Payfac-as-a-Service offering that shields platforms from risk while allowing custom branding. This enables SaaS companies and vertical software platforms to own the payment experience and create additional revenue streams.

Invoicing and AR Automation

BlueSnap's AR Automation Software streamlines the entire quote-to-cash process without requiring coding. The platform automates billing, accounting, and payment processes through one application that integrates with existing ERP and CRM systems. Features include automated invoice generation, subscription and recurring billing management, customer self-service portals for viewing documents and updating billing information, and instant visibility on accounts and performance for improved forecasting.

Fraud Prevention

Built-in fraud protection uses advanced detection systems to identify and prevent fraudulent transactions, potentially saving businesses from significant losses. BlueSnap's 3D Secure (3DS2) implementation ensures strong customer authentication for PSD2 compliance in European markets. Chargeback management tools help merchants handle disputes efficiently. Some fraud prevention features may incur additional fees depending on the selected service package.

Subscription and Recurring Billing

For businesses offering subscription-based products or services, BlueSnap provides comprehensive tools to manage recurring billing efficiently. The platform handles subscription lifecycle management, automated payment retries, dunning management, and customer communications—all integrated with the payment processing infrastructure.

Integration and Technical Features

BlueSnap offers a single integration to access the entire Global Payment Orchestration Platform, reducing technical debt for development teams. The platform provides API integration for custom implementations, hosted payment pages for simpler setups, and pre-built integrations with popular shopping carts, ERP systems, and business software. Each element of the platform is modular and can be turned on and off as needed—by country, product, issuer, or other parameters.

Modular Technology

The platform's modular architecture allows businesses to customize their payment setup extensively. Examples include applying stricter fraud rules to specific products, enabling 3D Secure only in EU/UK markets, or offering SEPA payments only in Germany. This flexibility ensures businesses can optimize their payment strategy for different markets and customer segments without maintaining multiple integrations.

Reporting and Reconciliation

BlueSnap provides unified global reporting that gives businesses insights into payment performance across all markets. The dashboard includes transaction data, reconciliation tools, and analytics to help merchants understand their payment operations and make informed decisions to drive growth. Tax and regulatory compliance features help businesses navigate the complexities of operating in multiple jurisdictions.

Partner Ecosystem

BlueSnap maintains partnerships across three categories: Embedded Partnerships with vertical software platforms for customized solutions and go-to-market support, Integrated Partnerships with leading technology providers, and Channel Partnerships for relationship management and revenue-generating opportunities. The platform integrates with numerous third-party solutions including CRMs, ERPs, e-commerce platforms, and accounting software.

Who Should Use BlueSnap?

BlueSnap is best suited for mid-market to enterprise businesses with international customer bases, software companies and SaaS platforms wanting to embed payments, subscription-based businesses requiring recurring billing, B2B companies that can benefit from Level 2/3 data processing rates, and businesses operating across multiple countries that need local acquiring to optimize costs and approval rates. The platform particularly serves industries including software (education, healthcare, business management), digital goods, professional services, and financial institutions.

Considerations

While BlueSnap offers competitive transaction fees and no monthly charges on basic plans, some users report that fees can be higher than competitors when adding optional features like advanced fraud prevention, chargeback management, and detailed reporting. Smaller businesses or those with lower margins may want to compare total costs including any add-on services. The platform is primarily designed for businesses with global operations or growth ambitions; purely domestic businesses with simpler needs may find more streamlined alternatives.
